My extradition case will likely end up before the Supreme Court of Canada, and is currently being reviewed by the Court of Appeals. They will let us know whether or not they plan to accept the appeal soon. John Conroy, my extradition lawyer and Alex Stojicevich, my Refugee Claim lawyer feel the only way we can win either or both cases, is through public support.
I must get my story out to as many people as possible, as soon as possible because the US federal authorities have requested my extradition case be fast tracked through the Canadian Courts. My lawyer estimates we have 2 years and the clock began ticking for my freedom on June 17, 2005.
There are a number of ways the public can help ensure my continued freedom in
Canada
. Below are some strategies and projects we are working on and that the public is encouraged to become involved with:
Lobbying
Government
In the Take Action section of my website
there are instructions on how to email members of Parliament and the
federal Justice Minister, Irwin Cotler, on my behalf. Irwin Cotler is
the one who must sign my deportation order to ship me back to the U.S.
There is an extreme amount of pressure on Canada from the U.S. to send
me back. We want to create our own pressure for the government to allow
me to stay and grant me refugee status here in Canada.
fundraising
My extradition lawyer, John Conroy, has estimated that it will cost $250,000.00 if my case goes to the Supreme Court of Canada. I currently owe him over $30,000.00 in legal fees already. The reality is that lawyers are able to work harder on cases when they are paid to do the work required. Donations are greatly appreciated and every little bit helps. If you are able to donate some money, please send a check or money order made out to John Conroy to:
